It’s baby season and I am currently gearing up for two baby showers of close friends. As a mom to four, I have spent more time than I care to admit trying to figure out what items really are baby essentials and what new parents really need for baby. It’s an overwhelming process to decide what baby really needs. Let’s face it there are tons of items on the market and who knows what baby will really like. Pacifiers, bottles, onesies, rompers… my head is spinning just thinking about all the baby items on the market. If you are trying to find the perfect gift for that new baby in your life, do yourself a favor and don’t make it difficult. As we speak there is a parent out there running low on diapers and wishing they had stocked up.
I have been making diaper cakes for years and always get told that it is the best gift ever. I had a friend ask how to make a small diaper cake recently so I thought it was finally time I share this easy how-to with you all here.
A stocked changing station literally brings joy to mamas everywhere. We currently go through approximately 6 diapers a day, but as a newborn that amount was more like 10-12. When I became pregnant with my daughter, I started shopping at Sam’s Club. I strolled through the baby section weekly and if I saw a deal l had to jump on it. I went back and bought a size 1 Luvs box of diapers so that I could share with you how to make a small diaper cake and also have enough diapers to make these diaper cakes all year long for multiple people.
How To Make A Small Diaper Cake
You can make this small diaper cakes with a few key items.
You will need:
- Luvs Diapers about 20 of the size 1 works great (about $0.11 each)
- Small Rubber bands (check the hair accessories aisle for cheap clear or black)
- Trim or ribbon Embellishment
- Baby Shoes for top decor
- Small piece of cardboard to help keep the base sturdy.
- Hot gun and glue
Start with 20 (size 1) Luvs diapers. Roll them up starting from the open side.Wrap each with one rubber band. Once you have all of your diapers rolled. Take 12-15 and form a circle as the bottom layer of the cake and use ribbon to tie them all together. Make a top layer with the remaining rolled diapers and tie that layer together as you did the bottom. Take a piece of cardboard and trim it to sit under bottom layer of cake. Use a few small dots of hot gun glue to stick diapers to the piece of cardboard. you really only need 3 drops of glue to keep it from slipping off. Take the top layer and carefully add 2-3 dots of hot glue to keep the top layer and bottom layer of diapers together. Decorate it with more embellishment if you’d like and top with a cute pair of baby shoes. Again I placed them on top with a tiny drop of hot glue.
You’ve got a cute small diaper cake to take to your next baby shower. Slide a card in between the embellishment and you’re done.
I get asked a lot what diapers and wipes I trust on my daughter. Let me be real, I have tried them all. Some babies have very sensitive skin and are more prone to diaper rashes. My priorities in choosing a diaper are how it holds through for long naps, overnight protection, and price. There is a reason why Pampers are the #1 choice of hospitals, with every child they have continuously been my top pick as a trustworthy diaper. Pampers Swaddlers are Pampers’ softest diaper and have held up day and night on all four of my kids.
Luvs’ Ultra Diapers have continuously come on top for me when it comes to getting the best bang for my buck. My favorite diaper for locking away wetness with the ultra-absorbent Nightlock.
A great way to use diapers as a gift for your next baby shower is by creating diaper cakes. Not only are they pretty to look at, but are functional too! I made this sweet diaper cake for a friend. Diaper cakes are so easy to make and can be made as big or small as you want. Shop Sam’s Club now and take advantage of the $10 off 2 or $18 off 3 offer on my favorite Pampers and Luvs diapers.
